Community-sourced family therapy intervention and implementation in Kenya

Bonnie Kaiser (PI)

This research tests a novel approach to community-based adaptation of psychological interventions. It is embedded within Dr. Puffer's ongoing family therapy intervention called Tuko Pamoja (Swahili: We are together), in which lay counselors are trained in family therapy techniques. We are exploring whether practices spontaneously used by lay counselors - in other words, pedagogical techniques, metaphors, examples, etc. that were not part of the intervention - can be identified and incorporated formally into the intervention. The overall project is also one of the few studies engaging in implementation science in global mental health.
