Climate Change and Mental Health

In summer 2019, CGMH affiliates convened a workshop with Mario Valladares Garrido, M.D. He is a physician epidemiologist working in the Emerging Diseases and Climate Change Research Unit (Emerge) at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Dr. Valladares Garrido is investigating how to mitigate the impact of climate change. His current comparative project focuses on persistent post-traumatic stress disorder and resilience of communities affected by the 2017 Coastal El Niño in Piura and Lima, Peru.

The outcome of this CGMH event is the undertaking of an exploratory collaboration with Dr. Valladares Garrido (Dr. David Grelotti, UCSD Glo-Cal Co-Mentor) to examine the relationship between mental health and climate change across sites in the Americas.
